Year: 11
Reason for Placement: At risk of being permanently excluded due to classroom behaviour
Target: To create strategies when feeling overwhelmed and prepare for GCSEs
Change: YPA encountered difficulties in socializing with peers and frequently responded negatively due to past traumas. By integrating military values into our curriculum, YPA started to excel in various activities, embracing leadership roles and enhancing their communication skills, which helped them become a positive role model for others. They developed a strong relationship with instructors, valuing engaging conversations over being talked down to, which had a positive effect on their home life, resulting in a calmer and more responsible attitude.
Outcome: YPA did sit their GCSEs and attained a 4 in Math, English and Science. They are currently at college learning a trade and have gained the position within SWAP as a mentor to assist with other young people.

Year: 9
Reason for Placement: Intervention required as struggled badly with universal provision in school and at threat of being permanently excluded, awaiting ADHD assessment.
Targets: Understand risk taking behaviour and build confidence to avoid peer pressure.
Change: Since YPB struggled to understand consequences, our focus was on exploring cause and effect. By engaging them in activities that required conclusions, they were able to reflect on the outcomes of their actions. Positive interactions with peers during these tasks provided opportunities for success, creating a habit-forming emotion they could carry back to school. By offering YPB a broader perspective on consequences, they began to reassess their current path and distance from negative relationships outside of SWAP
Outcome: YPB has returned to school and has continued to remain in a positive friendship group, they have since been diagnosed with ADHD and are receiving, and accepting, the extra support that they need.

Year: 11
Reason for Placement: Permanently excluded from school due to physical assault against another pupil. Unable to get admission into an alternative mainstream school.
Targets: To assist YPC in attaining his GCSEs and creating a career pathway post 16.
Change: YPC was willing to discuss the behavior that led to his exclusion, showing remorse and understanding of the consequences. These candid discussions helped alleviate his anxiety, allowing us to move forward and create a program focused on achieving his goals. With tutoring twice a week and a work experience placement , YPC began to see the results of his efforts and envision a positive future within reach.
Outcome: YPC sat his Math and English GCSEs and obtained his predicted L2. SWAP organised full time employment with their current work experience organisation and arranged his enrolment to college for day release to study carpentry. We still stay in touch to get updates on his progression.

Year: 7
Reason for Placement: At risk of permanent exclusion, had not settled in year 7 and was struggling with boundaries.
Targets: To engage with adult instruction, to make positive decisions and use respectful language
Change: Since YPD often left school premises without permission, it was essential for them to feel comfortable in their environment with SWAP. We provided them the chance to gradually participate in activities and utilize their designated 'space.' This comfort on site encouraged their engagement, allowing us to channel their enthusiasm into leadership skills and achieve successful activity outcomes. By building relationships with instructors and peers, we collaboratively began to address their targets in a restorative manner.
Outcome: YPD returned to school and successfully completed Year 7. Working closely with the school during their time with us enabled a consistent approach, which proved highly beneficial. They thrived in the stable environment we created together.

Wellbeing

In a world buzzing with activity it's crucial for today's youth to SWAP their focus to their mental, physical and emotional health. We are here to empower them with mindfulness, stress management, nutrition and exercise strategies.

Application

We highlight how our activities are most effective when their learning is put into practice. Every young person that attends will be encouraged to apply their knowledge and SWAP their approach to school or home behaviour.

Positivity

Positivity is crucial for the well-being and development of young people. Positivity enhances self-confidence and provides effective coping skills. We SWAP the classroom for an environment that positively reinforces their personal growth.
